SNUMA Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Southern Nevada Urban Micro Academy (SNUMA)?

SNUMA is an innovative school for North Las Vegas children and families seeking in-person learning, small class size and individualized instruction. It serves grades 1-8 and follows all Nevada Academic Content Standards.

What locations are available for my child?

We are currently offering classes at three locations:

  • Silver Mesa Recreation Center, 4025 Allen Lane
  • Neighborhood Recreation Center, 1638 N. Bruce Street
  • Alexander Library, 1755 W. Alexander Road

Locations are subject to change based on demand.

What will my child be learning?

Your child will participate in proven online math and literacy microschooling curricula, supplemented with live in-person teaching in a classroom setting. They’ll also take part in enrichment and extracurricular activities -- yoga, sports, art, foreign language -- during a highly-structured day that includes both learning and fun.

Safekey programming and before and after school hours care is also available.

How will my child’s progress be measured?

Children are assessed when they begin at SNUMA, and the online lessons measure their progress as they complete the curricula, which is aligned with Nevada Academic Content Standards.

How much does it cost?

The program is free!

How many children per class?

Class sizes are capped at 15 children per room. We will continue to add locations based on demand.

What precautions are taken to prevent COVID-19 from spreading?

The Southern Nevada Urban Micro Academy follows SNHD and CDC best practices, and abides by all directives from the State, including mandated face coverings, socially-distant classroom seating, and frequent cleaning and sanitizing of classrooms and facilities.
