The City of North Las Vegas turns 75!

The City of North Las Vegas is celebrating its 75th birthday on Saturday, May 1 with special treats and a month-long social media campaign, which will focus on honoring the past, celebrating the present and looking ahead toward the future.

City founders filed the petition for incorporation in district court on May 1, 1946. At the time of our incorporation, North Las Vegas was a small town that covered 2.31 square miles and had a population of 2,875. Today, North Las Vegas is a vibrant, bustling city, of 265,000 residents and growing, spanning 102.24 square miles.

"I am thrilled to be a part of the 75th anniversary of the City of North Las Vegas," said North Las Vegas Mayor John Lee. "This diamond jubilee really shows how far we've come as a city. We're no longer a bedroom community. The city is rapidly growing. You can hide and watch, more new money will be made in North Las Vegas than anywhere else in this region in the next 20 years. Of course, all of this growth and success is really a result of our wonderful residents who have been supportive through all of these years. We are blessed to have them and I want them to know, our future is bright!"

"Feliz cumpleaños to our wonderful city of North Las Vegas," said Mayor Pro Tem Isaac Barron. "We've come a long way since 1946 and have since transformed into a multiracial community full of cultural amenities, job opportunities and diversity. From our original neighborhoods to the edges of the city, exciting changes are underway!"

"North Las Vegas is my home and has been for 56 years, and over that time I have seen it grow and blossom into a thriving community," said Councilwoman Pamela Goynes-Brown. "Our city’s charter vision stands the test of time and it’s values will carry us forward. Now is the time to continue to persevere, press ahead, pursue our goals and take care of each other."

"What a historic year this is for us," said Councilman Scott Black. "Every year, North Las Vegas grows stronger, bigger and better. We've come a long way since our humble beginnings to now being the premier destination for those in search of the American Dream. The city has been through a lot over these last few decades. I have fond memories of my childhood growing up in North Las Vegas and I am excited for what the future holds for my hometown. I know, the best is yet to come."

"It has been a privilege to be a councilman here in North Las Vegas and watch the city come into its own," said Councilman Richard Cherchio. "North Las Vegas is really a wonderful place to live, work and play, and it has a plethora of surprises for those who take the time to explore. Each birthday brings wisdom and that wisdom will continue to take the city to great heights."

City leaders will be celebrating this milestone celebration all through the month of May with a social media campaign that will highlight the city through the years and include fun facts and trivia!
