Director of Utilities Tom Brady named one of the "Top Ten Public Works Leaders of the Year"

North Las Vegas – Director of Utilities Tom Brady has been named one of the Top Ten Public Works Leaders of the Year by the American Public Works Association (APWA).

Now in its 62nd year, this award is one of APWA’s highest honors, and is based on a lifetime of professional contributions. Recipients of the awards are chosen by past Top Ten recipients and embody professionalism, expertise, and personal dedication to improving the quality of life in their communities through the advancement of public works services and technology.

The Top Ten Public Works Leaders award focuses on outstanding career service achievements of individual public works professionals and officials from both the public and private sectors in North America. Each of the Top Ten Leaders is recognized for their accomplishments in federal, state, provincial, county, or municipal engineering or administration including career advancement, contribution to technology or job knowledge, commitment to the profession as evidenced by education, training, certification or registration and continuing education, as well as professional excellence and service to the community in large and small municipalities.

"The COVID-19 pandemic taught us how important it is to have a dedicated city leadership team that consistently thinks of innovative ways to move our city forward and implement projects and practices that will benefit our customers, the residents and businesses of North Las Vegas," said City Manager Ryann Juden. "Tom's leadership and thoughtful planning and foresight in our public works department helped us ensure that our residents would continue to receive essential services, even through the pandemic. I am proud to say we have our very own Super Bowl champion of public works right here in our city."

Brady has been with the City of North Las Vegas since 1995, primarily working in Public Works, serving as a Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer/Engineering Manager and Manager of Engineering and Construction Services before being promoted to Director of Utilities in 2020.

Brady has been responsible for much of the development and implementation of the City's Capital Improvement Plan since 2000, and has provided leadership in capital funding/financing as well as project management and regional intergovernmental relations. Most recently, Brady played a key role in gaining the approval of the Southern Nevada Water Authority's Board of Directors for a new water and sewer pipeline to the Apex Industrial Park. He has also been instrumental in many of the City's capital initiatives, including the North 5th Street bridge, the current City Hall building and expansion of the City's sewer system to the Speedway area in the northeast.

"I am incredibly honored to be named as one of the top public works leaders," Brady said. "I really want to thank the Nevada Chapter of APWA for nominating me, and of course, the incredible team that I have because without them and their willingness to adapt quickly to any situation, this award would not be possible. Our department continuously strives to provide the best service possible for our customers and improve upon and expand our vast infrastructure network as North Las Vegas continues to grow."
