CNLV Juneteenth flag raising June 3; other Southern Nevada Juneteenth events

Councilwoman Pamela Goynes-Brown and the City of North Las Vegas invite the community to a flag raising ceremony Thursday, June 3 ahead of Juneteenth, the annual celebration commemorating the end of slavery in the United States.

Wednesday evening, the City Council unanimously approved Resolution 2665, commemorating Juneteenth as an annual celebration in North Las Vegas, recognizing the sacrifices and contributions of the African American community. The resolution also designates June 19 of each year as a day of remembrance of the past suffering of enslaved African Americans and celebration of their freedom, equality and enduring hope for the future.

"Juneteenth is a day that we come together, young and old, people of all races, to listen, learn and reflect on its true meaning," said Councilwoman Goynes-Brown. "It is a day that brings us one step closer to ending the vicious cycle of racism and injustices in this country. Juneteenth is a day that we pray for continued and eternal peace."
